Our Junior Sailing Programme is probably the biggest in Bermuda. We provide sailing lessons year round to all levels from Introduction to the sport, to Learn to Sail and Advanced racing.
Our programmes and coaches focus on many different areas and aspects of the sport. It is our basic goal to teach young children how to sail and love this great sport, noting that sailing is one of the few lifetime sports. But along with teaching them as much as we can, we want to make sure they have a great time not only enjoying what they're doing but also learning about respect, responsibility, commitment, self confidence and safety.
We have courses on different types of boats - Optimists, 420’s, Lasers, Snipes and J24’s. We have different levels to accomodate the children's ages and sailing skills. Sailors can start taking our courses at a very young age - 5 to 6 years old. The first step we take is to make them familiar with the water and the sport of sailing. Once they reach 8 or 9 years old, we teach them how to sail. After they learn the basics, we keep teaching them in order to provide the techniques to control and sail the boat in a variety of conditions.
Finally, we not only introduce them into racing, we also coach them at a high international level. Our sailing program is very proud about the achievements of our sailors. These include USA National Champions, Bermuda National Team sailors, top 5 and 10 positions obtained at international regattas, etc., etc., etc.
Having your family participate in our sailing programmes will be very rewarding. Let us help introduce you to the sport, and take you as far as you want to go.
The following is a description of the different levels we have on our Junior Sailing Program.
The Water World program runs only during the summer. This summer we will have 7 weeks of this program and it will be done in the mornings only.
Learn to Sail Intro:
We will have the learn to Sail Intro program on our Spring, Summer and Fall programs. During the summer this program will be done in the afternoons only and we will have 7 weeks of it, 3 in July and 4 in August.
Level 1 (Learn to Sail):
We will have the Learn to sail program on the Spring, Summer and Fall programs. This program is for 8 and up years old children. We will take 7 years old children, only if they took our Water World and Learn to Sail Intro courses, at least once and if both, parents and coaches believe the children are mature enough for this course.
Level 2 (what used to be DSS 1 & 2):
This course is for those sailors who had completed the Learn to sail course. There is no age requirement for this course; the only requirement is to know how to sail.
Level 3 (What used to be Dss 3 & Advanced):
This course is for those sailors who had completed the Level 2 course at least twice and are willing to improve their sailing and racing skills by making the most of their training sessions.
