Child Protection

Introduction

The Child Protection Policy has been produced to help RHADC to enable children and vulnerable adults to enjoy the sports of sailing, windsurfing and power boating in all their forms, in a safe environment.

Annually the Club carries out a Risk Assessment to update the policy, the safety manual, and to address items discovered through the assessment.

The Club appoints Child Protection Officers and advertises their contact details for children or others to call with concerns.

If there are any questions regarding this policy, please direct them to the Child Protection Officer, or the General Manager.

What is Child Abuse?

In the context of this policy, ‘child’ refers to any young person under the age of 18. The policy also covers ‘vulnerable adults’, such as people with learning disabilities, or who have difficulty communicating, or who rely on others to provide personal care.
This policy is concerned with all types of Child Abuse. Abuse is normally categorised under the following headings:

  • Physical abuse
  • Neglect
  • Sexual abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Bullying

RHADC will:

  1. Require Coaches at Youth and Junior events to ‘sign up’ to the RHADC Coaching Code of Practice. This is to discourage unnecessarily forceful training methods;
  2. Require Self-Disclosure and Enhanced Criminal Records Background Check (CRB check) of the individuals fulfilling those Roles identified in the Risk Assessment.
